The Catawba Nation of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, will hoist a ceremonial beam signed by tribal leaders and local officials atop its permanent casino on October 27.
The 11 a.m. topping-off ceremony will include remarks from Catawba Nation Chief Brian Harris and others involved with the construction of the Two Kings Casino.
The Two Kings name celebrates the Catawba Nation’s history and future in their ancestral lands in North Carolina, paying tribute to the 18th century Catawba Chief King Hagler and the City of Kings Mountain.
The $1 billion casino and hotel, about 35 miles west if Charlotte, is scheduled to open in its introductory phase in the spring of 2026. That phase will include 1,350 slot machines, 22 table games, a 68-seat restaurant, an 18-seat bar, sports betting kiosks and a Lucky North Rewards desk. It will replace the temporary venue that opened in July 2021.
Construction of the casino complex includes a three-level, covered parking lot, a back-of-house level, and a top level with the main casino floor and restaurants. Work continues on a 24-story, 385-room hotel.
The main casino complex, scheduled to open spring 2027, will be about 2 million square feet and feature the hotel; 4,300 slot machines; 100 table games; 11 dining outlets, including a steakhouse, Italian restaurant, a marketplace with six venues, café and grab-and-go outlet; a players lounge; 11 bars, including a center bar and sports bar; and 3,500 parking spaces via a 2,700-space parking garage built under the casino complex; and 800 surface parking spaces.
The casino is expected to employ an estimated 2,200 local residents and citizens of the Catawba Nation when finished.
The project is being led by the Catawba Nation Gaming Authority under Vice President Trent Troxel, with Yates-Metcon as the construction general contractor, Delaware North as the developer and consultant on gaming and hospitality, and Soshny Architects.
Others expected to appear at ceremony include Delaware North CEO Lou Jacobs; Metcon President and CEO Aaron Thomas; Yates Construction Chief Operating Officer Chet Nadolsky: Yates-Metcon Joint Venture Senior Vice President Jeff Cross; Soshny Architects Principal Nory Hazaveh; and local officials.
